HVAC & Refrigeration Code Books

The mechanical codes HVAC technicians and mechanical contractors are examined and inspected against: the International Mechanical Code, the International Fuel Gas Code, the Uniform Mechanical Code, and NFPA 54 where a state uses the national fuel gas code instead.

Most HVAC licensing exams draw on more than one of these at once, which is why several items here are kits rather than single books — an IMC and an IFGC from the same cycle, supplied together, usually at less than the two bought separately.

Watch the cycle, not the year you bought

Mechanical codes run on a three-year cycle, and adoption lags publication. A 2021 IMC sitting beside a 2024 IFGC looks wrong and is usually correct — states adopt each code separately. The reference list in your candidate bulletin is the only version that counts; here is how to read it.

Spanish editions

The IMC, IFGC and related codes are published in Spanish and we stock them, including a Texas HVAC set assembled for the state licence exam.

Not sure which books your state wants? Tell us the licence and we will check the current reference list against what you are ordering before anything ships.
