Electrical Code Books & NEC Exam Prep

Every edition of the National Electrical Code we can source, plus the references that sit beside it on the bench: NFPA 70E for safety, NFPA 70B for maintenance, Ugly’s for the field, and the IAEI Analysis of Change when you need to know what moved between cycles.

Editions matter more than anything else on this page. States adopt the NEC on their own schedule, and a board can hold its exam on the 2017 Code years after the state adopted a newer one for construction. That gap is where most wasted book spend happens. We stock 2017, 2020, 2023 and 2026 for exactly that reason — if you are not certain which year your exam uses, check before you order.

Plain, pre-tabbed, or tabbed by hand

A codebook you cannot navigate under a clock is not much use on an open-book exam. Three options here:

  • Plain — the official printing, nothing added.
  • Pre-tabbed — factory tab sets fitted to that edition.
  • Tabbed For You — tabbed by hand in our shop, every tab seated square so it survives a year in a truck. Some books also come highlighted and annotated by a licensed master electrician.

In Spanish and bilingual

The NEC is published in Spanish, and we carry it — 2020 and 2023, with index tabs, plus bilingual kits that pair the English and Spanish books for crews working in both. See Libros de Código en Español.

Everything here ships from a working electrical shop, not a warehouse. If you tell us the exam you are sitting and the state you are sitting it in, we will tell you whether what you are about to buy is right.
