Texas Licence Exam Prep

Exam preparation for the Texas trade licences, assembled by a licensed Texas master electrician who has sat these exams rather than read about them.

What makes Texas different

Texas is stricter than most states about what comes through the door, and candidates are turned away for it:

• Soft-bound only. Loose-leaf, spiral-bound and ring-bound copies are refused.
• Manufacturer tabs only. Homemade, DIY and third-party index tabs are not permitted.
• Highlighting and notes are allowed — but only if made before the session.
• The NEC Handbook is not allowed in the examination room.
• No loose paper, taped, adhered or stapled.

Everything in this collection is supplied to those rules. The electrician exam is two portions — NEC knowledge and calculations — passed independently at 70%, and unused time on one does not roll over to the other.

The current edition

The Texas journeyman and master electrician exams are written against the 2026 NEC. If you are holding a 2023 book, it is the wrong book for this exam.
